This New Year cleaning resolution tips post is brought to you by Mr. Clean as part of a Type-A Parent Community Sponsored Post.
A new year means out with the old and in with the new. I don’t wait until spring to start cleaning my house of clutter. It’s amazing how things pile up in no time. Magazines you’ve saved to clip recipes or articles for later. Plastic bowls from takeout Chinese and deli salads stacked in a cupboard.
That doesn’t mean I just throw things away. I try to recycle whatever I can.
Old cotton socks for example, make great cleaning rags. I like to slip socks over my hands. Even if they have a hole or two you can still use them. A sock gives you much better control than wiping with a rag. You can get in cracks and crevices with your fingers as you clean. Cleaning with socks also can save your manicure!
I bake a lot. One thing I love to do is color frosting. Sometimes those liquid colors can stain. They’re not the easiest thing to get off your counter or your hands.
This is where a multi-purpose cleaner comes in “handy”!
I just slip on the sock and add a few drops. You can also mix it with water for bigger jobs like floors.
Wipe away the marks and rinse.
It cleaned the sock too when I rinsed it but it is not recommended for fabrics.
A nice clean counter! Now I can go on to other things knowing if I spill food coloring, I’m covered. I won’t need to hide the counter with my dish drainer!
You can also use clean, damp socks the same way to gently wipe dust off houseplants, too!
This year I’m going to try to organize more efficiently. I plan to only save a few plastic bowls for leftovers. If I’m short, I’ll use a snap-closed style bag.
I’ll clip which articles and recipes I want to save and file them then recycle the magazine/newspaper or save the information online.
Remember when you clean out your clothes drawers to save those socks!
